Flowers and Pot
thingiverse
This is a 3D printed model I designed and built in response to one of my students, who requested a custom flower arrangement. First, I scoured Thingiverse for inspiration, coming across a beautiful flower pot design that served as the basis for my own creations. With the pot's dimensions solidified, I took creative liberties by reimagining it as a circle instead of a polygon. To add an extra layer of realism, I included three distinct holes of varying depths for accommodating different-sized stems. I crafted two bespoke flowers that would be securely anchored to these stems, acknowledging that minor modifications might be required to ensure seamless fitment. This could involve carefully drilling out the pot's recesses or strategically adding additional holes using a precision drill bit. Moreover, users may choose to adapt the stem lengths by carefully sawing them at strategic points. My preferred design software for this endeavor was Autodesk Inventor, a tool that has become an integral part of my middle school curriculum due to its intuitive nature and versatile capabilities. After defining all necessary parameters, I set off on the print queue, armed with specific settings: yes to rafts; no supports required; default 2-shell resolution; and a modest 10% infill percentage. In operation mode, my trusty MakerBot Replicator 2 printed each part meticulously using PLA filaments, scaled using proprietary software tailored specifically for our needs. I discovered that an ideal setup consisted of setting the flower pot's Z-axis (Height) to 80mm, adjusting the Z-axis on the actual flower design to 50.4mm and lengthening its stem along the X axis by 177.8mm for optimal display and visibility. These precise specifications resulted in three striking models, each showcased individually in various orientations as part of this documentation set: Flower Pot 2, Closed, Open, Flowers Stem, Flowers at varying depths with corresponding photos highlighting ideal orientation to replicate effectively.
