Flower Vase

Dr. Iskandar frequently proclaims, "I am both potter and gardener." His dedication to gardening and his plants is extensively documented. Flower Vase showcases Dr. Iskandar's love for nature and gardening combined with his respect for Nordic pottery design. His travels to these countries have significantly deepened his appreciation of Finnish Fiskars and design studios like Kähler, whose Omaggio striped vase was a staple in Danish households. This iconic striped vase became so coveted that it triggered the 'Kähler Vase Scandal' in 2014 when thousands of Danes were denied their vase due to limited supply. Dr. Iskandar brings a new twist to the popular 'stripe' in ceramic-ware. Moving away from sleek, polished surfaces characteristic of these striped vessels, Dr. Iskandar employs coarse grain raku clay to create textured surface designs. He rejects thin-walled elongated forms, opting instead for thicker-walled, squat trumpet-shaped beaker vases (sometimes referred to as jardinières).
