I printed this in PETG then later in ABS. You want something that is stronger and won't fall apart because it's wet more often than not. PLA WILL eventually crumble.

I'm an avid gardener. But many of the pots I purchase have drain holes that are too small, no drains at all, or plants have root systems that clog typical drains. So I designed these. You need to drill a 1" hole in the low spot(s) of the flower pot or planter. If it's rough or a little bit big, it will still work. You can see in my photos that the paddle bit I used made some pretty rough openings.

There's two parts - the strainer/cage that goes inside the pot, and the retaining insert that pops into the strainer from the bottom. The bottom part has a slight cone-shape so it inserts easily, but gets tighter as pushed it. It's a simple friction fit. If it's too large because of dimensional issues when printing, the bottom part can be scaled down. The flower pot or planter is sandwiched between the two parts. You can glue if needed, but it should stick well with just a friction fit.

You'll want to flip the cage/strainer 180 degrees so the flat top is on the bed. No supports needed.

It will work on flower pots, planters, etc. up to 1/8" thick at the base (maybe a little thicker.)

The best use is to attach to the flower pot then fill with pea gravel or small rocks to the top of the cage. I rinse the stones to make sure any crud, weed killer, chemicals, etc. have been removed.

In my photo I used four of the cages to insure a really well drained pot. This one is for roses that want dry soil between waterings.

I sliced the model so the cage walls are solid and the top portion has a 25% infill. You could go 100% infill - it does not use much material. The bottom is 100% infill. I just increased the number of walls to insure the walls were 100%.
