Flower pot cat protection v2.0
thingiverse
We recently adopted a cat that likes to dig occasionally in pots and make a mess around them. I decided to design my own protection instead of buying one, as it wasn't very affordable anyway. Plus, designing and printing my own allows me to easily adjust and scale the design for different-sized pots. The initial design was made for a 260mm diameter pot. I designed the protection in Hexagon without any gaps or holes. Later on, I can cut out one or two sections to fit it around a flower or plant. As mentioned earlier, the initial design was intended for a 260mm diameter pot. I've also improved upon a similar pot protection I found on Thingiverse (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3600410). Firstly, I made the vertical pillars not perfectly perpendicular at 90 degrees but rather at 85 degrees, allowing them to grip the pot better. Secondly, I added holes at the tip of each pillar so that I can secure the protection with a cord or metal wire. The resulting model was exported from Hexagon as an STL file and imported into Cura. I then scaled it down to fit a 210mm diameter pot, printed it with 0.28mm layers, a 190C nozzle temperature, and 70mm/s speed (detailed Cura settings can be found in the Other Details section). I cut one section to create an "open" protection and inserted metal wire into the holes. Assembled this way, the pot protection was securely attached to a 210mm diameter pot with a metal wire, resulting in a strong, durable, and stable structure.
