This is my first iris box design, the Petal Box. I've updated it to use countersunk screws instead of 3D printed pins for easier printing and assembly. To open the box, simply twist the collar in a counterclockwise direction. No supports are required. I have many other iris box designs on my profile page that you can check out. The standard size box is approximately 80mm tall, 80mm in diameter with a 62mm container opening. There's also a taller container option that's about 190mm tall, perfect for storing pens and pencils. My part files are designed to work with M2x6 countersunk/flathead screws like these; you'll need 24 of them in total. You can scale the parts to use larger or smaller screws, such as M3x8 at a 150% scale. Buying screws in bulk from a specialist supplier is significantly cheaper. Printing and Assembly Instructions: Part Testing: First, print one Petal Base part and test the holes to ensure the screws fit correctly. They should freely rotate in the large countersunk hole and fix tightly in the other hole. You may need to use hole XY compensation to get a good fit, or try out a free slicer like IdeaMaker. The Petal Top and Petal Base parts connect using a press fit, which is why I've included two versions of the Petal Top with different tolerances: 0.1mm and 0.2mm gaps. You can also experiment with hole XY compensation, layer height, and extrusion multiplier to affect the press fit. Be careful not to get "elephant's foot" on your parts, as this will affect the fit; you may need to trim it carefully with a craft knife. There are also two special parts: Petal Base Hole (the same as Petal Base but with a hole cut through) and Petal Fill (which press fits into the hole for an additional color/layer option). Again, there are two versions of each part for the press fit: 0.1mm and 0.2mm tolerances. Printing and Assembly: Once you have settings that work for the screw joints and press fit joints, print all the other components required for the box: one Container, one Collar, six Links, six Petal Base parts (either type can be mixed), and six Petal Top parts. To assemble the box, first attach the non-pointed end of the links to the collar, making sure the screw heads sit flush in the countersunk holes and the links can rotate freely. Then place this collar assembly onto the container. Next, screw the Petal Base parts into the holes in the container, which should also hold the collar assembly securely but still allow it to rotate freely. Now press fit the Petal Top parts onto the Petal Base parts on the box; you may need a gripping tool for this step.
