Flower Class Corvettes served as formidable warships within the Royal Navy, their primary role being to safeguard convoys from German U-boats as these vital supply vessels made their way across the Atlantic during World War II. This radio-controlled model vessel was produced using a 3D printer with PLA material and boasted an impressive build volume of 210x186x160mm. To recreate the intricate details, precision hull line drawings were carefully obtained from Anatomy of a Flower Class Corvette - HMS Agassiz. With a plan in place to use four or five spools of filament, it quickly became apparent that even just printing the single piece that comprised the ship's hull would be a substantial undertaking requiring approximately two full boxes and about 200 hours. Noteworthy features on the hull itself include an impressive propeller shaft with an eight-point-eight millimeter bore size, exact weld lines replicating those found on a real vessel, numerous strategically-placed port holes, bilge strakes expertly molded for optimal performance, functional scuppers allowing excess water to escape, and an array of precise mechanical parts like the rudder post with its integrated servo mount and dedicated motor mounting space designed specifically for a reliable Mabuchi 750 type brushed electric motor.
