Flow Power

The proposed ventilator does not need a mechanical pump. Instead, it uses the pipeline pressure of the medical facility and regulates that pressure to deliver ventilations with specific Peak Inspiratory Pressure. Without a mechanical pump, production is facilitated, costs are reduced, failures decrease, and maintenance requirements for the ventilator are minimized. The Ventilation Rate and I:E Ratio can be adjusted by a controller unit controlling solenoid valves. A cylinder provides an "air reservoir" of Air/O2 mixture for SIMV mode (i.e., if a patient takes a spontaneous breath, there is a ready-to-deliver mixture of Air/O2). A Hall Effect Sensor Position Measurement Device is attached to the cylinder with a magnet on the piston. Movement of the piston changes the position of the magnet relative to the Hall Effect Sensor Position Measurement Device, allowing the controller unit to determine the piston's position and adjust the tidal volume delivered to the patient by controlling solenoid valves. Details of the controller unit and its connections to the proposed ventilator are not illustrated at this stage to avoid obscuring main features.
