Florina RC Boat
thingiverse
I really enjoy making RC boats, so I decided to post one here; it's basically the complete project with all the files that I used for CNC cutting and 3D printing. Here is a clip from when I was testing the propulsion assembly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DC4Dhyafk_g The boat is made from 3 mm Komatex (PVC fine cell structure) glued together using cyanoacrylate and 2 mm Komatex (PVC fine cell structure). They were cut using a 3 mm single flute mill; I think it will work using a 0.125 inch endmill, but I prefer the tight fit of a 3 mm endmill. After everything was glued up, I sealed the joints using Bison Construction Adhesive. After it dries, it remains somewhat rubbery. Then, I painted it with something similar to rubber paint - a compound that they used on the underside of cars to prevent rocks from damaging the paint. It's really cheap, doesn't smell bad, and it's quick to dry. It makes the hull watertight without too much hassle. It uses a 1250 KV motor that gets its power from a 3S Lipo. It's quite fast in comparison with the rest of the boats that I made. The shaft was made by me, and it's in the STP file but the dimensions are as follows: an 8 mm brass sleeve - 53 mm long; a 4 mm stainless shaft - 104 mm long. The prop is a tight fit on the 4 mm shaft; I hammered it in, and it stays there. If I need to replace it, I just hammer it off. It works great - no gluing necessary. At the water intake part, I used hot glue to stick it to the underside. I used a rubber gasket that I made from a bicycle tire (the inner part not the tire itself; I don't know how it's called) to secure the rudder part to the back of the boat. No leakage. The nozzle and the reversing part are moved by 2-4.3 kg servos from Hobbyking - HK15138. They could be overkill, but I had them on hand. The servo support is made from 5 mm Komatex, and the inside cutout is made expecting those servos. So if you want to use another one that part should be modified. The archive contains the DXF files. I'll add stuff here as I think about them if they are important.
