Florescent tube light tent
thingiverse
Four cold cathode fluorescent tubes are employed to provide omnidirectional lighting for macro photography. A suitable example can be found at http://www.xoxide.com/dual-white-cold-cathode-kit.html. Despite not being the brightest, this setup works well if you have four tubes and need light for close-up shots. To create the lighting apparatus, clean the undersides of bridges using a razor or file, insert tubes and 1/4 inch wooden dowels, and secure wires out of the way with zip ties. A 12V power supply adapter can be made by visiting RadioShack, soldering, and using heat shrink tube (details available in notes). Optional reflectors can be created from card-stock or thin cardboard, shaped like parabolas, and attached to the clips using tin foil, string, super glue, and bar clamps. Ensure proper positioning of reflectors for optimal light direction. Capture photos once everything is set up, and enjoy the improved lighting quality.
