The Floralis Genérica is a striking metallic sculpture situated in the United Nations Plaza, Figueroa Alcorta Avenue, within the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, generously gifted to this city by Argentine architect Eduardo Catalano (1917-2010). The structure was officially unveiled on April 13, 2002, utilizing materials supplied by Lockheed Martin Aircraft Argentina. Located in the heart of a four-hectare park with tree-lined boundaries, the sculpture is surrounded by winding paths that draw closer and recede, offering various perspectives of the monument. Situated above a reflective pool of water, this serves not only an aesthetic purpose but also provides protection. The Floralis Genérica represents a large flower crafted from stainless steel, featuring an aluminum skeleton and reinforced concrete, gazing upwards towards the sky as its six petals stretch outwards. Weighing eighteen tons, it stands at a height of 23 meters. In years past, plans had been set in motion to construct the Altar of the Homeland in this very location.
