I built this for my uncle's high-speed racing track. LED stripes are essential for the lampshades; they can be up to 10cm long and 22mm wide. You'll also need hollow round connectors, 12mm in width. In my case, I flattened one end of the connector and drilled a hole. If you're unable to do this, you may need the "Schirmkuppler." At least, you'll require nuts and bolts; M5 should be sufficient.
