We require a slender probe to collect a sample, one that's slightly flexible in nature. This probe should be inserted into one nostril and carefully maneuvered towards the back of the nose, just before it reaches the throat (pharynx). The probe itself is designed with a small brush attached to its tip, which enables us to gently dislodge cells from the pharynx walls. It's within these cells that we find the majority of the virus present on their surface. It's essential to obtain an adequate specimen for the test to be sensitive: too little virus and the results may indicate a false negative.
