Floating Pinion Demonstrator is a compact device engineered to test and showcase a floating pinion gear drive train. The pinion is typically secured below the rear (left) gear and knob, allowing for free rotation of the rear (left) gear and knob. When the front (right) gear and knob is turned clockwise, the pinion shifts into contact with the rear (left) gear and knob, prompting the rear (left) gear and knob to rotate in response. As soon as the front (right) gear and knob comes to a stop, the pinion returns to its parked position, while the rear (left) gear and knob continue rotating freely. A video demonstration is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKVjJ3RDKKU. The Floating Pinion Demonstrator was designed using Fusion 360 software, sliced with Cura 2.3.1, and printed in PLA on an Ultimaker 3 Extended.
