Floating lamp with LISA satellite model
thingiverse
This thing is two in one. First it is a 3d printable design for my favorite satellite mission, the LISA mission of ESA&NASA. LISA is a space antenna for probing spacetime by measuring gravitational waves with a constellation of 3 satellites. The satellite configuration is taken from early conceptual designs. https://www.elisascience.org/articles/lisa-mission/lisa-mission-gravitational-universe In alternative to a complete 3d print, you can replace the top part with a actual round solar cell (100mm). For the outer skin I recommend the yellow side of rescue foil to mimick the multi-layer insulation (MLI). Second, the model can be used in different ways. It is designed to work as a floating lamp, both as a hanging (magnet on top) or standing variant (magnet in base). It requires to buy and disassemble a a floating lamp (40-80€), destroy the bulb for the magnet and energy transmission coil and glue both into the model. If there is high interest, i can add a more detailed instruction on how to disassemble and reassemble.
