Floating floor drain cover

170mm diameter and 20mm thick design/logo cover for floor drains This lid floats if water enters the drain, normally it prevents the water trap from drying out too quickly. It also looks nicer than the original. A blank cover is included to add your own logo (STL + STEP). I designed the floor drain cover to be printed with my own conductive ETPU rubber because it produces an exclusive look with its matte carbon black surface finish, nice prints with a minimum of stringy cobwebs, covers that won't crack or break when stepped on, and uses less energy during printing since it doesn't require a heated bed. To prevent the cover from compressing too much underfoot, internal ribs were added. This allows for low infill (20%) and the final part will function well as a float. A 0.7mm nozzle at 230 degrees Celsius was used for this print. Using a larger nozzle than the commonly used 0.4mm provides several benefits, including lower pressure in the melted material - higher speed, and much stronger parts due to better bonding between layers (also making it more likely to be water tight). Conductivity is sometimes a key feature of using ETPU but in this case the surface finish and ease of 3D printing were the main drivers. The fact that conductivity isn't a drawback here certainly helped. This design was created for a friend's restaurant, photos can be seen at palmiga.com/opening-night-2015-httpvastragard-se/. The restaurant is located at vastragard.se.
