Special thanks to Jamie Laing for making this incredible project possible! Without his model, none of this would have been achievable. I needed a custom Float/Berley design for the 14th November lunar event and found myself working under tight time constraints - it was already 10pm on the 13th. So, I got down to business, sourcing an excellent 'Screw Ball' object that could be expertly modified into a pill-shaped berley trap. At 11:31pm, I began printing, and as luck would have it, the larger of the two STL files took a whopping 4 hours to print, while its smaller counterpart required just 3 hours. Come 8:26am on the 14th, I was ready to put my new trap to the test - placed 2 meters off the bottom, it featured an ingenious closed ball of air inside that would make it float upwards, while the weight at the bottom would hit the sea floor with precision, leaving the trap floating triumphantly above. I'm eager to share the results of this experiment with you! Fishing wasn't exactly what I had hoped for - a swarm of around 50 earthquakes had struck New Zealand that day, causing an unusual exodus of fish from the coast. Despite spotting tons of fish swimming away from shore, they simply refused to bite. However, my trap performed flawlessly according to design, and I'm counting down the days until I can take it out again! 21 - 11 - 16 Update: The Bobbing Float Lid STL has been successfully printed using the following settings: Printer: Prusa i3 SpeedBot 2000 Rafts: None Supports: None Resolution: 200micron Infill: 20% Honeycomb Notes: Nozzle diameter: 0.4mm First layer height: 0.35mm Layer heights: 0.2mm Perimeters: 2 Horizontal Shells (Top): 4, Bottom: 3 Brim: 4mm Extruder temperature: 230c Bed temperature: 110c (slightly burnt on the bottom of the longer printing object) Post-Printing: The complete trap is now ready for deployment!
