My Flip Lock tripod was damaged in airline transport some years ago. The consumer Flip Lock model FL is light, very easy to use and fast to setup. I resorted to a pair of little vice grips to adjust the leg with the broken lever. Enter my brand new Zonestar P802QR2 3d printer. I decided to learn the complete 3d process by fabricating a replacement lever for my tripod. The part has simple geometry, it is small and it is useful, so an ideal first time project. Print Settings Printer: P802QR2 Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: No Resolution: 0.2mm Infill: 20% Notes: The CuraEngine Slicer defaults result in a very flexible lever. Qurntum 3D PLA filament was used. Post-Printing Leave the remaining threads on the object, just to show you made it yourself! How I Designed This Simple 3 part FreeCAD model This was an ideal part to learn the FreeCAD basics. The hardest part was learning how to drill a pocket in the object. Beginners' Tip: Select the surface you wish to drill into before creating the pocket! Once the outline of the lever is sketched and extruded to 10mm height, drill a 5mm pocket into the barrel 8mm deep. Save as an STL and slice.
