This DIY project adds a convenient macro filter system to a Meikon underwater housing for my Sony a5100 camera. The standard Meikon housing has threads designed for a 67mm lens filter, but this setup allows for quicker addition and removal of the filter while reducing water pressure or potentially when wearing gloves underwater. All components snap into place securely. A gentle sanding or patience may be required to get them to fit tightly together as needed. I employed a 3mm filament rod as the hinge pin to connect everything seamlessly. My macro filter is an inexpensive eBay special, but many other standard 67mm filters would likely work just as well - possibly something like this:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291451991317?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT When I head out diving in two weeks, I'll post an update about how this new setup performs underwater. I'm planning to do that soon. After a couple days, it started working decently well, however, the retaining latch holding the lens firmly into place needs improvement since it snapped off rather quickly - no doubt because of the rip currents in the area where I was diving. As soon as I return from my next dive trip, I'll redesign and upgrade that bit and post an improved version online shortly.
