Flip It Good!

Flip your Prusa Mendel's x-axis upside down for a 40% larger Z-axis build space! After struggling to print a 126mm tube for his son, one maker decided to make a change. He discovered that the MakerGear Prusa-Mendel x-carriage was symmetric about its own axis, so he flipped it while doing a rebuild. To maximize effectiveness, make these additional modifications: use small binder clips for glass and belt clearance, eliminate automated homing of the x-axis in your slicer settings, position the x-axis motor as high as possible on the mount, ensure Z-axis rods are parallel, remove springs from x-axis mounts, and double-check wiring reach. Experiment with synchromesh cables for even more build height. Watch this YouTube video to see it in action: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=O6T0TAdobz4
