FlexRC Ascent 3" DJI Air Unit Mount, Brace, and Camera Extension
thingiverse
I mounted the DJI Air Unit upside down using a modified mount from Thingiverse, which I adapted to secure it from the top two standoff screws. To prevent it from falling out, I recommend wrapping a zip tie around the unit and holder. For the camera extension, you'll only need it if you use the prop guard and want to ensure the guards don't obstruct the camera's view. If you don't mind, you can skip the extension plate altogether. I suggest printing the DJI Air Unit in TPU for a more stable build. For the brace and camera extension, a firmer filament like PETG, ABS, Nylon, or PLA would work best. I'm currently using PLA+ for my test prints, but if it fails, I'll update with alternative suggestions. This project is still a work in progress, and you can find more details on my build here: https://rotorbuilds.com/build/22802 Update (2020 March 22): I replaced the old prop guard with a new version, Prop Guard v2.stl. I extended the motor mount holes to ensure proper screw alignment. Update (2020 May 02): After completing the build, I noticed that the prop guard is designed for taller motors like 1407, which keeps the props in position and provides effective protection. However, with 1404 motors, the props sit too low, and the guard doesn't perform as intended due to slipping through when encountering obstacles. To address this issue, I've created three versions of the prop guard: * Prop Guard v2.stl for taller motors (1407) with a 5mm shaft * Prop Guard v3.stl for shorter motors (1404) with t-mount props * Prop Guard v4.stl for shorter motors with a bottom insert printed in PLA+, ABS, PETG, and other filaments I've also added a fourth version of the prop guard because I didn't like how the motor screw sank into the TPU. Print the insert with a harder filament like PLA, PETG, or ABS. When installing the TW board to the frame, I noticed it was sitting higher than necessary, so I shortened it slightly using whoopto20x20_3mm_short.stl. Update (2020 May 03): I created another version of the prop guard that's 1mm shorter for better fit with AirbladeUAV 1404 superman motors and HG 3x3x3 props. * Prop Guard v5.stl - Shorter Motors - bottom insert printed in PLA+, ABS, PETG, and etc. Update (2020 May 16): I created another version of the prop guard that's full height to use with the insert. This prop guard works best for 1407 and 1507 size motors with a 5mm prop shaft. * Prop Guard v2.1.stl Don't forget to print the insert (Insert_v3.stl) to use with the prop guard. I'm using PLA+ for the insert, and it's working well so far.
