FlexiGlass for DreamBox

Antonio Pinfor's design proposal for sunglasses in the rural Guatemalan community considers several aspects, such as children's attraction to foreign objects, protection against Pterygium caused by intense sunlight and wind, traditional culture influence, and unique anthropometric structures. The Flexiglass TOP model is an innovative experimental design featuring a self-folding mechanism adjustable to the child's skull and customizable covers woven by local artisans. Technical specifications include using 2-oxepanone, homopolymer material for soft frames, elliptical crystal design for better fit, and retractable rods for sun protection. Production processes are proposed to use a Makerbot Replicator2 3D printer with flexible filament, making it more accessible for the local area. Lastly, customization options like acetate pods for the rods can add value to the design. The glasses aim not only to protect children from intense sun but also serve as toys, helping prevent Pterygium. (Estimated price of stiffening sheath and case: $0.90)
