This prototype of a laptop stand is engineered to be as straightforward as possible, both in production and usage. I aimed to minimize material consumption and packaging size while optimizing the design for efficient manufacturing. To reduce waste and maximize material yield, I employed nesting techniques that minimized cuts and utilized the full width of the material. For prototyping purposes, I chose a budget-friendly option: OSB (oriented strand board). Its rustic texture can be sanded to a surprisingly smooth finish. The stand is versatile, allowing use both horizontally and upright. Simply insert the beam into the slots on the upper end, where interlocking mechanisms provide ample rigidity. For shipping and transportation, the parts can be easily disassembled. This project was completed using a desktop CNC machine from Stepcraft, working with 15 mm OSB material and a 3 mm flute spiral-toothed cutter.
