Flexi-neck Bed Light Adaptor
prusaprinters
I wanted to add a flexible bed light to my Prusa Mk3 so I could use a webcam to monitor print jobs without needing the lights on in the room - for extra bonus points, I wanted to be able to use the Prusa's existing PSU as well. The light I chose for the job was the Osram Onyx Copilot L+7 (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00KYK6DPW) as it takes 24V power and could be wired directly into the power supply on the Prusa Mk3. Please note, for this project you'll need to be comfortable with either soldering or crimping extra wire & fork connectors onto the wiring supplied with this light.I made an adaptor plate to mount the light to the aluminium extrusions on the Prusa, and repurposed the nut supports from https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/53765-side-drawers-for-prusa-mk3-i3 to mount the plate itself to the extrusions. Here are the instructions for fitting and wiring the light to your Prusa Mk3:Print the adaptor plate model and 2 x nut supports (nut supports can be found in https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/53765-side-drawers-for-prusa-mk3-i3) - you'll probably want to use PETG for these parts, especially if you'll be using an enclosure for your printer.Fit 2 x M4 nuts to the hexagonal holes in the adaptor plate.Mount the adaptor plate to the frame rails of your printer with 2 x M4x10mm bolts.Mount the Osram Onyx Copilot to the adaptor plate with 2x M4x10mm boltsSolder or crimp-connect approximately 30cm of 24-gauge wire to each of the red and black wires protruding from the baseplate of the lightCrimp-connect fork connectors to the ends of the wire extensions.Connect the two fork connectors to the live and neutral terminals on your Prusa's power supply, ensuring that you connect each wire to a terminal that already has the same coloured wire - red to red, black to black. That's it, you're all done, and hopefully your print bed is a little bit brighter!
