Flex shock absorber arm for universal bike phone mount
thingiverse
This is a mod for a quite common and cheap bike handlebar phone mount, sold on A##zon and the likes. If you have the same exact mount, this mod is for you!If you don't... well I gave you the STP file to play with! ^ ^The mount itself is really great for its price (10€), maybe except for this big drawback: the shocks and vibrations from the handlebar are not dampened at all! And after 3 years of bumpy roads and rocky forest trails, my phone camera has started to show some early signs of abuse (minor focusing issues and hiccups)This convinced me that shock dampening is not an option if you want to carry your phone on the handlebar!Instead of buying a more expensive mount with whock absorbing features (of which I couldn't find one that didn't require to stick something ugly to the back of my phone) I wanted to try this cheap solution first.Like on many shock-absorbing holders, this arm moves the phone's center of mass off the fastening point to the handlebar, with a flex (TPU95) material to absorb and dampen most shocks and vibrations. The effect is drastic: the phone no longer shakes with the handlebar, even on big bumps !I have designed the same notches on the rotation axis so as to have the same rotational ability with the arm as with the original mountYou should have the same mount as me if you wish to have direct compatibility! If not, you should first disassemble yours to check if it's built the same way, and maybe edit the STP file to adapt it.ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS:Remove the center screw cover, and unscrew the main silicon holder (1 screw + 1 spring)Keep the screw, you won't need the springUse the screw with a 15mm washer to fasten the flex arm in place of the silicon holder. Use an M4x15mm bolt, with another 15mm washer, to fasten the silicon holder at the other end of the flex arm. The screw head must be 9.5mm of diameter (same as the original screw that held it), flat and cylindrical (not conical, or the holder will break under the stress)-Tighten the nut with the 15mm washer, and you're done ! Fasten your new phone mount back on your handlebar, and go make a few jumps with your phone in it
