This experiment aims to evaluate remote motor driving for an extruder, featuring a face-sized component similar to a Nema17 stepper that houses a flex shaft driven by a remote stepper. Essential items from McMaster Carr include 5x M3 nuts/bolts, replacement flexible shaft (4447A96), replacement sheath (4447A97), metric set screw shaft collar steel (57485K65) with a 5mm bore, 12.7mm OD, and 6mm width, and a metric acetal sleeve bearing (2640T16) for a 12mm shaft diameter, 18mm OD, and 10mm length. To assemble, insert the nut inside the trap, then place the shaft and sheath through the rear of the block (note: the OD is 0.7mm too large). Next, secure the sheath with a screw on the case side. Afterward, put the set screw shaft collar over the protruding shaft and tighten the set screw. Finally, press the sleeve bearing into the block over the shaft collar to complete the setup.
