A DIY flex sensor can be created with affordable parts. While not extremely accurate, it might still work well for certain projects. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lt6fb9za_A&feature=youtu.be Materials needed are: A 3.5mm PVC tubing that is about 40mm long; Two M4 nuts; Two M3x30 screws; And a graphite pencil. Steps to create the DIY sensor include: Break off a piece of the graphite pencil and extract its core, then grind it into fine powder using a file. Insert an M4 nut at each end of the PVC tubing. Attach one end of an M3 screw into the first nut. Tighten the second nut from the other end with some powder in place. Finally connect a multimeter to the sensor and take resistance readings which are usually about 50 ohms when it is unbent. To adjust this initial base value, merely loosen or tighten both screws a bit further.
