**Note: Updated ExtruderV4_1 uploaded Feb 9 2017 - minor changes can improve performance, but tolerances in the filament path are much tighter, so ensure accurate printer building** Many users have attempted to modify their extruders for flex Filament, with varying results. I designed my own mod, aiming for a direct swap-out of my stock extruder without requiring additional screws or components. The design is largely similar to the original, with key tweaks to enhance performance and prevent flex filament from curling up within the extruder. This modification is ideal for users seeking a hassle-free upgrade. Key features include: • Direct replacement for Max Micron (and most Prusa i3 clones) without additional hardware • Utilizes existing screws and springs from the stock setup • Improved, more reliable feed into the extruder gear with an extended tube in arm • Eliminates the issue of flex filament working its way out of the extruder Printing recommendations: • Use concentric supports if printing with either part flat on their side (approx. 18% support coverage) • Apply at least 3 nozzle widths for shell and a minimum 1mm top/bottom layering • Infill of 15-20% works well, provided the outer shell is sufficiently thick • Incorporate alternating shell with infill if your slicer supports it **Important note: When using ExtruderV4_1, be aware that you cannot pull hot filament out due to its tight path. To release the filament, back it out 3-5mm and let it cool before pulling through, or risk the extruders throat becoming stuck with hot plastic.
