I tweaked the design to fit neatly onto 3"x4" custom name tags and adjusted the colors and stroke in the Illustrator file to align perfectly with TechShop's laser cutter settings. I then cut it out on 1/8" (3mm) birch plywood, sending the wood through the laser cutter a second time to etch a precise design onto the inside of the top surface. After sanding it down and gluing it together carefully, I added a finishing touch by threading elastic through the holes to keep the box securely closed and hand-stitching the end of the elastic together for a seamless finish.
