Flatware Adapter
thingiverse
This is a flatware adapter designed to enable individuals with hand movement difficulties to eat and manipulate food. Its primary function was conceived for a patient who had lost his thumb. The adapter's ergonomic design makes handling flatware easier by thickening the handle and surrounding the user's hand. The internal channel of this device can be adjusted to accommodate various objects, such as thicker utensils, toothbrushes, or pencils, catering to diverse needs. This innovative product originated from a collaborative project between the Mutual de Seguridad C.C.H. in Chile and the Neuro Rehabilitation Institute. Post-Printing Assembly Instructions: To assemble the adapter, you will need a heat gun, cutlery, and the printed adapter. Begin by heating the designated part of the adapter as indicated in the accompanying figure. Once heated, carefully place it on the patient's hand and shape it to fit comfortably. Exercise caution not to overheat, as this may cause burns. Next, insert the cutlery into the internal channel and heat the starting point. Using a pair of pliers, gently crush the heated section to secure the utensil in place.
