Flatcar scale 1:32

I've got a great little Flatbed wagon that's in 1:32 scale gauge, perfect for model trains. It measures 230mm long, with a buffer distance of 262mm - plenty of room to add some interesting details. The axle holders are designed specifically for 3mm shafts, which means you can use wheels from LGB and equivalent brands. And the best part? I've added attachments for standard couplers like LGB's so they fit seamlessly. Although moving axles can be a bit tricky for me, I've been experimenting this winter and it seems to work well. However, keeping the wheels parallel to the tracks is key, so I've come up with a clever solution using a holder in the middle and straps made of plastic - just like the ones that wrap your post packets. This has worked out great so far, and you can even use a screw from around the house since there are two holes of different widths on the holder. One other thing I thought was useful is using rubber bands or elastic bands to hold everything in place. I've seen it done on model trains before, and it's a brilliant idea! Printing Details I used my MakerBot Replicator 2X printer for this project, and the resolution is mostly 0.2mm. Assembly Instructions To assemble the wheels into the shaft holder, simply push them down with some heavy pressure until they click into place. First, make sure the shaft fits perfectly into the hole from the side - if not, just file it out a bit so it does roll smoothly. I used polished 3mm round steel for my wheel axles. Special Details I've designed specially stakes that fit this flatbed car perfectly. You can find these at this link: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1587831 And if you want to take your model to the next level, I recommend adding some load poles on either side of the trailer. Just use round toothpicks or BBQ sticks and paint them for a realistic look!
