Flat Panel Cone Head for D-O Star Wars Droid
thingiverse
This is only a small part of D-0's head, but you'll need the rest from David's Source D-O Droid. THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS - I HAVEN'T ACTUALLY ASSEMBLED IT YET! I chose to use flat styrene for D-O's head because it saves weight and reduces print costs. With access to a laser cutter, cutting out the cone took less than 5 minutes once I got the power dialed in. The back part of the head took another few hours to create, and a couple minutes to print the grill, resulting in a complete head. Since David's plans included mounts for the grill and rear part on the cone print, I had to adjust those to accommodate my flat surface method. The only changes were made to the interior parts. When working with earlier drafts of this design, I wasn't satisfied with the placement of the three "eye" stripes from the version of David's cone that I was using. To improve the look, I moved them up slightly and fattened them. They might be a bit too thick now, but they appear more visually appealing to me. To complete D-O's droid head, you'll need black film or a similar material for his "eyes," as well as parts from David's plans if you want to create a full droid. This is just the head, so additional components are necessary for a complete build.
