Neck Weight for Flask - My Essential Yeast Starter Companion As an avid brewer, I'm always on the lookout for innovative tools to elevate my game. One trusty companion in my toolkit is the neck weight designed specifically for my flask, serving as a loyal ally in temperature control. When using it with my yeast starter, I've discovered that this weighted accessory provides the perfect balance to keep my flask securely submerged in the water bath. To craft one of these essential neck weights, you'll need to create two identical halves that fit snugly together around your flask's neck. This is followed by filling each half with a significant amount of lead shot – approximately 900 grams per section. Next, layer the components with precision before sealing them together with some support and care. One notable feature that simplifies the assembly process is the incorporation of alignment pins within the design. I also chose to take it an extra step by drilling a small hole into each half and adding lead shot before securely plugging the opening with epoxy for added durability and security. This thoughtful design consideration significantly enhances the overall effectiveness of your finished product, allowing you to precisely calibrate temperature levels in your yeast starter with confidence.
