Flashlight USB Ports for BMW vehicle
thingiverse
The stock glovebox flashlight in E46 BMWs falls short of expectations, providing inadequate illumination. However, the 12v port situated within the glovebox is an incredibly convenient feature. To address this issue, I designed a plug-in replacement for the flashlight that boasts two 3A USB ports. Required Components: * Port head * Plug part A * Plug part B * Existing flashlight pins (used components are acceptable) * Approximately 3" of 20 to 24 AWG wire * Two USB 3A buck converter boards, available on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XPZ7I4I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Soldering Tips: * Flatten the wires across the boards at a 90-degree angle to their long axis. * The plug will interfere with the wires due to its flush design against the bottom of the boards. Print Settings: * Printer: Craftbot * Rafts: None * Supports: None * Infill: 20% * Notes: No supports are required, and printing yields a very clean finish. Print the usb port end face down and with the two plugs flat on their large faces. Design Process: I utilized Google Sketchup and Adobe Illustrator to capture the groove pattern from a photograph. A Sketchup file is attached for those interested in modifying the design.
