FLashForge Creator Pro X Fan + Cable Chain
thingiverse
This design is based on csatti's original cable chain and fan setup for the WanHao Duplicator. However, I ran into issues trying to install it on my machine, as the major problem lies in the stepper setting for the Y motion being lower than what was used by csatti, which caused the Y axis to prevent homing (bummer). I decided to make some adjustments using sketchup and successfully made it work great. But then I encountered another issue - wanting to have neatly bundled wires that also looked nice. Additionally, several people complained about weak or broken Y stepper brackets, so I came up with this device which functions amazingly well. I even created a revised version of the file that has a half-hole on the opposite side to accommodate free wire movement and access through the wire loom. On my own printer, I did not include it, but after noticing its benefits, I uploaded both designs for you all. Having it won't make any difference - just a design choice to improve aesthetics without bending the cables. I print this part on 3/16 glass with Kapton tape and hairspray without supports or rafts (although, if that's what you prefer, using rafts can be an option). I have been successfully printing objects on the same setup without any adhesion issues due to excessive Kapton tape. After it cools down, it simply pops out by itself. However, in case it becomes stubborn or has too much adhesive spray applied, gently tapping the object with a putty knife helps dislodge it. When it comes to the Y bracket, I recommend printing it exactly as is and adjusting layer thickness according to your needs (I personally used 0.27 layers with three shells at 60% infill). With compact objects of this size, even high infills don't result in wasted filament and deliver the required strength - you get great results without overdoing it! Although this design was intended for PLA, you can use other materials like ABS, Nylon, HIPS, PC and just make a few adjustments on scale to account for material shrinkage. I love my current setup as both of my FFCP's have it and it's working beautifully. In the future, I'm going to be adding more modifications to this so keep an eye out! In fact, one thing I plan on including is a finger that runs from the front right corner of your machine towards the back 1/4, essentially serving as a support for keeping the chain from sagging. My own FFCP has suffered from some issues, including the mainboard going down, which put it out of commission. Still, I highly recommend this solution for improving both function and aesthetics of your printer's wire setup! In summary, you're sure to appreciate not only protecting those cables but also having a great-looking setup instead of using twine or zip ties. If any changes or suggestions are in order, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. Enjoy, and thanks!
