Flash diffuser with snap on domes for canon speedlight 580xII
thingiverse
I was unable to find a satisfactory diffuser for my Canon speedlight, so I improvised by remixing a DIY diffuser that was somewhat too long for my taste and lacked a professional finish. Process: First, I halved the original design and scaled it up to fit my model of flash. Then, I added a rim or lip to the base for clipping on domed lids. Next, I designed the dome lid in Tinker CAD to snugly snap onto the diffuser base cone and be easily swapped out if needed. This allows photographers to print out different colored caps to use as gels or color filters for a more creative effect. I also created a version of the diffuser funnel with loopholes for strapping the diffuser to the flash for extra grip. Both versions have a groove that helps the diffuser fit snugly onto the flash without wobbling. Finally, I made the dome cap available in two different densities that can be swapped out on the fly. One is thin and allows more light through (labeled "thin version"), while the other is uniform with the rest of the diffuser cone (labeled "thick version").
