Its flanges allow it to leave deep dents or shatter armor altogether.\nThe solid metal maces and war hammers that dominated battlefields were able to inflict significant damage on well-armored knights, as the sheer force of their blows was strong enough to cause harm without penetration. Although iron eventually became the preferred material, copper and bronze remained widely used, particularly in regions where iron resources were scarce.
