Flanged Coupling
grabcad
Couplings function as attachments that join two rotating shafts, enabling power transfer between them. Typically, couplings do not permit disconnection during operation; however, torque-limiting versions can slip or detach when a specific torque threshold is surpassed. A flanged coupling, the most commonly used rigid type, typically comprises two cast or steel bosses with protective flange plates at one end. These flange plates have evenly spaced bolt holes on their faces. The bosses are fastened to each shaft's terminus using a taper key from within, and then secured via bolts and nuts.
