Flange for Cyclone Dust Sepatator
thingiverse
This custom flange is designed to securely mount a Suning SN50T3 Cyclone separator to a low-cost plastic bucket lid without gaskets or sealant. By placing the cyclone between a vacuum cleaner and a CNC router or miter saw, it effectively catches sawdust, eliminating the need for frequent filter changes. The 5 mm thick, 150 mm square flange is specifically engineered to be mounted on the lid using 1/4 inch bolts, while M4 self-tapping screws are installed from underneath the flange and into the cyclone before attachment. To ensure a robust vacuum seal, this flange is larger than the manufacturer's standard offering. It was printed in ABS on an XYZprinting da Vinci 1.0 A with a course layer height of 0.36 mm and a normal speed of 15 mm/s. Despite being printed at a lower speed than intended, this flange provides the necessary stiffness to make the lid effective. The project includes printing bushings to fit hoses to ports and connecting them to the miter saw, which was successfully tested by cutting walnut. Next, some parts will be printed to connect to the CNC 2030 router, which was used to cut holes in the bucket lid instead of drilling and sawing. The digital template from the flange proved invaluable for this process. This cyclone separator can be found online under various seller names for approximately $25, with prices dropping to around $11 in China. While an alternative version including the manufacturer's flange is available for a dollar or two more, this custom flange offers improved performance on low-cost bucket lids. The Craftsman 5 HP shop vac was purchased at Lowe's for under $40, and with military discount, it came out to be around $36.
