A flange is an external or internal ridge or rim that provides strength in structures such as I-beams or T-beams, serves attachment purposes on objects like pipes, steam cylinders, and camera lens mounts, ensures track retention in rail cars and trams with flanged wheels, and can also be a type of tool for forming flanges. Pipes featuring flanges enable simple assembly and disassembly. Cast iron, carbon steel, 12Mo-Steel, Al steel, and 13Cr-1/2Mo are common materials employed in flange manufacturing.
