Swordsmiths craft flame-bladed swords with a distinctive wavy style that adds to their dramatic appearance. The wavy pattern in the blade often gives it a fiery quality, but its true purpose is functional rather than purely decorative. In combat, certain attributes of the waved blade proved surprisingly useful. Two classic examples of flame-bladed swords are the rapier and the Zweihänder, although other types have also been known to feature this unique design.
