Flagpole (Super Mario Bros)

A Goal Pole, once known as a Flagpole, materializes at the end of every standard level in most popular Mario games. To conclude the level, Mario, Luigi, or any other playable character must leap and seize the Goal Pole. Flags on a flagpole come in various hues, but Red Flagpoles typically signify an alternate exit in New Super Mario Bros. games. Once the player grasps the top of the flagpole, they will acquire an extra life. Flagpoles were replaced with boxed, roulette-like goals in Super Mario Bros. 3 and Giant Gates in Super Mario World. These Goal Poles symbolize Mario and his companions conquering or claiming a particular area – overpowering Bowser’s flag and/or substituting it with their own.
