Fjorg 3d Printer (HyperCube Evolution) Mostly Printed
thingiverse
Fjorg is a project designed to propel the HyperCuber Evolution forward. All components that can be printed in Black PETG will be, including the frame, railing, bearing assembly, and Z supports. The question at hand is how far we can push this design while keeping it affordable and reproducible for someone new to 3D printing. I've observed on YouTube that builders of the Hypercube are achieving print speeds of up to 300mm/s. While using aluminum will undoubtedly add its own factors to speed and height, the question remains whether PETG itself is up to the challenge. Fjorg 001 will feature a 300x300x600 print area with duel Z, quad herringbone railing for build plate support. Instead of a lead screw, the Z will be driven by two 3D printed chains. Parts are designed to be lock fit and easily expandable if desired, allowing a base model to have the ability to print more parts and grow its Z build area. Many ideas still need to be proven. If you're interested in joining the design efforts, reach out to us on our Discord at https://discord.gg/XhY9cWQ. STL files will not be shared at this time as this is still a proof of concept. Each Fjorg will come with its STL files so that any of its parts can be replaced or altered later. The goal is to build a cottage industry where anyone who wants to get involved with building their first 3D printer can do so with high confidence of success. It's friends helping friends that makes it work. I know there are many things I don't know, but I'm confident that collectively we'll find the best answer. Over the years I've been involved in 3D printing (2013), I've seen amazing advancements made. Designers like Creality have taken publicly sourced designs and turned them into quality printers that have changed the market. How can we, as hobbyists, build a better printer at a lower cost, designed to be changed and adapted? A 3D printer with lock fit parts that can hold a Dremel to convert it into a CNC mill is an exciting prospect. What about robotics and 5-axis CNC? Why wait for the industry to provide for us when we can build for ourselves today? You can view the Z Rail and Carriage proof print at https://youtu.be/UQMAyXDVuuU
