Many prts, especially those running drilling or tapping operations, are raised on a plate to a fixed stop. This enables a drill press set to allow a drill to drill the part to a specified depth to perform the operation accurately. Any possibility of unintentionally drilling too shallow a hole is eliminated. Some designs require that the plate on which the part is raised not only be an equalizer but also be prevented from rotating as the part is raised.
