Fixes For The Golden Gun
thingiverse
I printed out https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3282404 and had a few issues I felt needed to be addressed Parts fixed - Trigger: This has been shaved down on the sides to pit into the cigarette case, I dunno if it was supposed to be stored in there or not but seemed logical to me - Pen Cap Hollow: Added the actual hollow tip for the pen to go over the screw threads Now the big one, this took most of the day to fix test several times and and perfect (well as good as I will ever get) this print requires a hard to find micro hinge, very annoying to print something out to be stuck at a part you can't readily find anywhere. I have rebuilt the case to use an added joint section, basically I made the equivalent of a micro gopro mount. - Lighter Top: filled the existing hinge area, removed the indented monogram (It had to be moved for the hinge) put on an extruded monogram. Cut out an insert location for the new hinge - Lighter body: Cut an insert for the new hinge system - New hinge system: I had to go about this is a fairly complicated way to keep printing simple and not add a lot of supports. Print the hinges at .2 minimum, and at 80% fill. NO SUPPORT REQUIRED, you're just gonna get mad if you do it ;). Some minor filing in between the fingers is required, very simple, and a little needle file to ensure the holes are rounded. Use a section of filament to join the sections. you can either melt it into the ends or just glue the end tips on the outer hinge. Friction fit will work also. Once printed test the operation and ensure the proper orientation before the next step. Now, carefully glue each section to its proper part. 2 prong hinge going on the lid, with the circles pointing downward, 3 prong hinge glues to the body and the wholes point upward. Join it together and let it fully set. while this does leave more of a bump on the outside it at least lets people finish this great model! That's all, it's a wonky solution, but it solves the hinge problem without introducing a bunch more. I have done full mock tests with the hinges and the sections where they join (cutting them out of the bodies, gotta save time (it is 4 hours for the lighter bodies alone) and material after all :) and they fit and sit where they should with those tests, however until I finish printing the lid and body and ensure it didn't introduce something weird I will list this as a work in progress. I will update once I reprint tomorrow. FYI: not taking anything away from the original thing maker, I just wanted to be able to properly use the parts from the print as that hinge I could not find anywhere So be sure to like the original thing if you print it! You will need the rest of the kit from the original thing, this is just the changed parts.
