Human: Fixed Harpoon, Hot Springs Village, Port Moller, Alaska CAT# 2-21.45.3 Most Likely Dating to Hot Springs 1A 2000-1600 BCE.\n1960 Japanese Excavations Uncover Rich Archaeological Secrets. Described in Workman (1966) Arctic Anthropology, 3(2):132-153, and Maschner (2004) AJA 2(1-2):100-116. The Hot Springs site is a massive ancient village situated on the shore of Port Moller, on the Alaska Peninsula side of the southern Bering Sea. It has been excavated by multiple research teams over the past century. The primary occupations date back to 2000 BCE and continue through 800 CE. Hot Springs artifacts are presented as a result of thorough research conducted under grants NSF 0137756, 1204020, 1139266, 1321411. H. Maschner serves as Principal Investigator. Original digitizing work was completed at the IVL at Id. St. Univ., with subsequent processing accomplished at Global Digital Heritage.
