I wanted to see if I could simulate portals without actually having them. One of my early concepts was basically a donut with segmented skyboxes. It worked really well in VR, so I kept iterating on the idea, coming up with unique environments, ambient audio effects and interactive set pieces. It took some trial and error, lots of texture baking and dozens of test runs in VR to get everything right, but I'm really proud of the result. The world has been well-received and even made it into VRChat's showcase. Speaking of that, the VRChat version has more places to explore, higher fidelity effects and shaders; and there are a bunch of interactive elements to discover.
