Five Closet Door Repairs!

Five Closet Door Repairs!

I find myself in a home with four sets of folding closet doors that are falling apart due to abuse, neglect, age, and changes in flooring. Instead of replacing them all for $60-$150 per set, I chose to repair them, and it turned out so well that I want to share these easy fixes with everyone. There seem to be five common problems with these doors. I've created a simple solution for each one. Missing door knobs are a problem. Since I was missing three knobs on my closet doors, I designed a printable knob that can be used as a replacement. You can see pictures of it online. It's easy to print and uses a machine nut to secure it properly. Broken pivots are another issue. The lower corners of the doors have pivot points that bear a lot of weight, and they can break easily. I had one that was broken, so I designed a printable replacement. Holes in the ends of the doors where the pivots and wheels attach are often worn out or broken. To fix this, I created a sleeve that fits over the existing parts or new printed parts to fill the area. Missing or broken upper pivot or pivot wheel is yet another problem. When I had one door missing its pivot wheel, I designed a printable version of the plastic part that can be used with standard hardware. Because of poor construction or changes in flooring, the height of the closet door opening may be too tall. This causes people to keep adjusting the pivots and wheels to compensate for the mismatch, which eventually leads to worn-out holes in the doors. To solve this issue, I designed a simple spacer block that raises the bottom pivots. Happy repairs! Reamo
