Fitted Case for Generic Dial Indicator
thingiverse
This is a custom fit case for a standard Chinese-made 1-inch dial indicator with a 3/8 inch shank and a 60mm dial face. These are widely available on eBay and Amazon for under $20, but come in a simple foam "brick" that isn't suitable for most toolboxes. The case was designed to offer protection and easy transport of this useful measuring tool, which is also very affordable. UPDATE! A new STL file called Modified_Fitted_Dial_Indicator_Case has been added. This one fits the Harbor Freight version of the dial indicator, which has a slightly larger loop on its back face than the standard model. (Thanks to blingster for sharing this information!) Printer Settings: Printer: XYZ Da Vinci AiO 1.0 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: Good Infill: Default Post-Printing: The hinges and latch tabs may be a bit fragile, but I found that applying a generous "coat" of acetone makes them much stronger and more durable. The hinge pin holes might need a little cleaning with a small drill bit. Short lengths of 0.025 inch music wire work well for hinge pins. The acetone-reinforced latch tab provides a good "snap" closure, but you can make it smoother by tweaking it with a small file or sandpaper if needed. How I Designed This: I created a dimensional solid pattern based on the actual dimensions of the dial indicator and then subtracted that solid from basic box and lid models. Next, I subtracted other solids from the box to reduce filament usage. All modeling was done using 123D Design software. The model was then sliced and printed with current Da Vinci applications.
