Fishing Plummets from the Past: A Treasured Find at the Natural History Society of Maryland The fishing plummet, a valuable addition to the archaeological collection at the Natural History Society of Maryland, holds secrets of the past. Unearthed during an excavation at a precontact site along Stoney Run in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, this artifact dates back to the Late Archaic to Early Woodland periods. The discovery was made possible by a local property owner who first stumbled upon it in 1899. Further investigation in 1943 by Richard Stearns and the Natural History Society of Maryland shed light on the site's significance.
