Fisheye Lens Cap
thingiverse
I own a Vivitar Series 1 8mm f:3.5 Fisheye lens, which I stripped of its lenshood to prevent it from appearing in my Canon 5D's photos. This left me without a suitable protective cover for the lens. I designed this custom lens cap from scratch, considering the unique features of this particular lens after modifying it with tools. The design is distinctive and not identical to other caps I've seen. Using calipers, I measured the dimensions carefully. The fit is snug, which ensures the cap won't accidentally fall off. However, this also means it must be removed slowly, as another 0.1mm of clearance would have made it loose. The exterior finish isn't perfect, and perhaps I should have left the supports intact for a neater appearance. A bit of sanding and polishing will greatly improve its look, but that project can wait until I'm in a more ambitious mood.
